In today’s digital age, where every corner of social media contains a new ‘must-try’ financial and investment tip, Global Money Week (GMW) 2025 aims to highlight the real impact and influence of such advice.
That is exactly why this year’s theme of GMW is ‘Think Before You Follow; Wise Money Tomorrow,’ a gentle reminder for everyone to pause and think before following any online advice and making financial decisions. So, let us find out what Global Money Week Nepal 2025 is about and what’s happening this year.
Global Money Week (GMW) is an annual global awareness-raising campaign that aims to increase financial literacy among children and youth so that they gradually become capable of making informed financial decisions as adults.
GMW, organized by the OECD International Network on Financial Education (OECD/INFE), has been held every March since 2012. This year’s celebration marks the 13th edition worldwide, with 176 countries educating over 60 million children and young people.
While this year’s theme is ‘Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow,’ the official slogan of GMW is ‘Learn.Save.Earn,’ which aims to empower children and youth to not only learn to manage their money wisely but also save for their futures and earn for themselves and their families.
In an effort to promote financial literacy among Nepali youngsters, Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), as the national coordinator, has instructed all banks and financial institutions to celebrate Global Money Week 2025.
The NRB itself is hosting various programs such as dynamic workshops/seminars, interactive Q&A panels, hands-on activities, rallies, and networking opportunities with financial mentors and industry experts.
Likewise, all other financial bodies in Nepal licensed by NRB will conduct various forms of financial awareness programs throughout the GMW.
Last year, banks and financial institutions all over Nepal successfully organized over 2808 financial literacy programs, which reportedly benefited more than 168,000 people. So, this year as well, you can expect several exciting and educational events during GMW.
The GMW 2025 theme, ‘Think before you follow, wise money tomorrow,’ addresses today’s fast-paced, trend-driven world where financial trends spread like wildfire on social media, tempting youths to fall prey to the latest buzz.
Today, almost every social media is full of Finfluencers (social media personalities or influencers who offer advice and information on various financial topics, influencing the decision-making of people, especially youths), AI-driven advice, and viral money tips. So, it has become difficult for people with little to no financial awareness to tell what’s real and what’s misleading.
That’s not all! Many people, especially youth, follow financial trends without a second thought, mostly due to the pressure of peers or the emotional influence of social media.
As not all tips and guides online are reliable, this opens a possibility of leading youths to bad financial decisions that can expose to risk their own and the entire nation’s economy.
Therefore, this year’s GMW theme aims to encourage critical thinking, careful money management, and awareness of emotional triggers. By improving financial literacy, young people can avoid scams, resist impulsive spending, and make smarter financial choices for a secure future.
Global Money Week 2025, with the slogan ‘Think Before You Follow, Wise Money Tomorrow,’ reminds not just youths but everyone that we should always remain cautious and thoughtful before blindly following any online financial advice, whether from Finfluencers or AI.
However, with financial literacy, you can critically assess and see the reliability of online advice yourself using platforms like Saral Banking Sewa, where you can research, compare financial options, and consult with experts to make an informed decision every time.
